I want to give you this lesson that I have been trying to practice through 2023. It is the lesson of Traction and Distraction.
Our lives are incredibly complicated now, we have so many devices for so many things and people can literally contact us 24/7. Whilst for many sectors this helps them to thrive, healthcare, technology and media, for us as humans it is the catalyst for endless distractions.
The reality is that apps are built to try to keep us on them for as long as possible and they have a highly addictive design. Yet, we cannot get sucked into thinking they are to blame. If we find ourselves distracted we have to look internally as to why we keep picking up the phone – and take a hard look at our lives.
Before we can get into a place of traction and moving forward we need to start to ask why we are getting so distracted:
Are we fulfilled?
Are we making decisions for our future self?
Are we actively listening?
Here’s the thing, we are ALL distracted yet few of us understand the compound effect this can have on us over the space of a year. We could be achieving so much more than we are.
So to try to get myself into traction, here is what I have been doing:
Prioritise what you need to do
Time block
Ivy Lee Method
Schedule time for self care, meditation, dog walks
Exercise daily in the week to ensure I feel focussed
Listen to something motivational each morning (it works really well for me)
I know a few of you may be shaking your heads, duh, that’s so obvious. But it really isn’t. Unless we are focussing on doing the internal change each day, we will not actually be able to stick to those simple strategies.
Part of this is one of the reasons that I developed The Reset. I guarantee if you take part in this four week course you will sky rocket into the second half of the year. It is profound, strategic and proven…. infact, why not hit reply if you have any questions 🙂
