The irony of writing this piece while absolutely hyped up on a coconut coffee is not lost on me. Its one of those days in August early in the week where I am getting things done, working, go go go and yet every single human I am interacting with is so tired. This pandemic life now is still real, the zoom fatigue and the real the lack of “offline boundaries” as I call them are more rife than ever, there really doesn’t seem to be this ability to pull away from work like we used to, even weekends often require email responses (thats a hard no from my team)
It really makes me wonder why we have come to accept that our well-being is something that we can negotiate on while setting the highest standards. I like to believe my work with clients is based on the foundation that in these “messy middle” moments we can clarify clear pathways to build a life we deserve. The reality of creating this life and the ability to learn what works for actually takes a lot of work requiring you to show up daily, to be consistent, to be a visionary, to be creative – is there any wonder we are tired.
I love to delve into the mindset of these words and thoughts that clients have, and boldly last night I thought to myself, I have cracked it – there are five key steps that we are all living through and the end result is literally putting us back to the beginning. The tiredness is infinite!
Heres how I have broken it down:
T: Trying (we are really showing up and really trying – we are not lazy here, we really try)
I: Irritated (we don’t see results right away, we are being pulled in so many directions daily)
R: Refusal (we refuse to give up, we can battle through this, we don’t need sleep!)
E: Exhausted (we begin to get brain fog, we are crashing at 3pm)
D: Done (we give up and we take time off to reboot)
AND REPEAT
The thing is if you are doing all the things continuously and our “offline boundaries” are not being respected we are never going to get out of this cycle. Now while I am not here with a short term solution, I am here to acknowledge that it is ok to feel this way. All you need to do is ask yourself:
“What is one thing I can do today to move the needle by 1%”
These small simple steps each day create the foundation and the habit stacks where huge changes happen. You see you are not meant to be constantly online, you are not meant to be constantly resting, we need to come back to the balance: the yin and the yang, the masculine and the feminine. We all need to start somewhere so as I write this I am starting my morning by:
+ Meditating
+Updating my e-planner
+ Going onto airplane mode as I write this too you, as I cannot do all the things all the time
Maybe you can start here……If so download my free e-planner here.
